PRESS RELEASE

Charlotte Children’s Choir Headed to the White House

Charlotte, N.C.  – November 21, 2011 The Chamber Ensemble of the Charlotte Children's Choir will fill the hallways of the White House this Christmas.

Director Sandy Holland received notification in November that the ensemble of 11- to 14-year-olds has been invited to sing at the White House for visitors from noon - 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 19.

“We were very excited to hear that the White House was interested in the Choir singing for the holiday open houses,” Holland recently said. “This is a great opportunity for the choristers and the City of Charlotte. I hope more people will get excited and realize what a treasure the Charlotte Children's Choir is! The kids are so dedicated and work hard. They love to be the best!”

The White House office contacted the Choir by phone and asked if they were interested in singing for the Holiday Tours.  The Choir submitted a press kit and CD & DVD’s of music. The Choir had applied to sing at the National Tree Lighting Ceremony several years ago, but never heard anything.

Holland said she can bring 30 performers to the White House, so she has chosen the 17 member Chamber Ensemble who typically serves as ambassador for the Charlotte Children's Choir, and will add youth who have five or more years of experience in the 50-member advanced choir. The ensemble will perform about 20 songs, she said. Selections will include seasonal classics like "Ding Dong Merrily on High" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

The Group will leave by bus on Sunday, December 18, 2011.  The itinerary includes the White House performance and tour on Monday and a visit to “Zoo Lights” at the National Zoo Monday nightOn Tuesday, State representatives Kay Hagin and Sue Myrick offices have offered to host the choristers with refreshments, and provide a unique educational opportunity to tour the US Capitol.  The group will return on Tuesday, December 20, 2011.
