In response to Hurricane Katrina, the Charlotte Children's Choir held a fundraiser that raised almost $4,000 for the New Orleans Children's Choir.

Like many top-notch choirs, the Charlotte Children's Choir has a busy tour schedule.

"We went to Hawaii together which was just amazing," says 14-year-old Garrett Hutchings, a longtime choir member. "I love traveling to new places and meeting new people."

One especially memorable tour experience for 14-year-old TyNia Brandon was going to New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina hit.

"Two of the girls from the New Orleans Children's Choir showed me around the city, and I was struck by how much they loved where they lived," she recalls. "It was so sad for me when I found out their city had been washed away."

In response to the disaster, the Charlotte Children's Choir held a fundraiser that raised almost $4,000 for the New Orleans Children's Choir.

Another reason choir members come back year after year is their beloved conductor, Sandy Holland.

"She can be a strict coach, but she's also sweet and nice," describes 13-year-old Sarah Greer.

As for Sandy Holland, she loves working with the kids in the choir.

"It's part of my personality to have fun with them," she says.

The Charlotte Children's Choir sings two pieces: a haunting Hungarian folksong called "Mid the Oak Trees" followed by an especially lively piece called "Roger Bobo Plays the Tuba," featuring the tubist Zachary Graff.
