HistoryThe Charlotte Children’s Choir, founded in 1986, is a broad-based community organization dedicated to providing unique educational and performance opportunities to boys and girls with the goal of attaining the highest level of artistic excellence in choral music performance. The Choir’s membership consist of 230 children ages eight to eighteen in six core ensembles. The membership represents nine counties, two states and over 100 public and private schools. The program begins with elementary school preparatory choirs and progresses to senior choirs for high school singers. Advancement is based on musicianship and vocal development. Children interested in participation in the Choir are required to audition. CCC's primary purposes are:
For 26 years, the CCC has exemplified the standard of choral excellence in programs and performances. In addition to the weekly rehearsals for six leveled ensembles; the choir's six ticketed events include fall, Holiday, Children's Holiday, and two Spring Concerts featuring the ensembles of the Charlotte Children's Choir and the sixth event is a dinner cabaret highlighting individual members of the Concert Choir. The past eight seasons, the Choir has collaborated with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra for the Magic of Christmas at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and has performed various productions withOpera Carolina. Performances also include the Biltmore Estates Candlelight Series and NPR’s “From the Top” radio program. Collaborations have included performances with Grammy award winning Canadian Brass and the American Boyschoir. The Choir has worked with world famous clinicians such as Paul Caldwell, Bob Chilcott, Juan-Tony Guzman, and Francisco Nunez to name a few. The Choir has toured the United States, Canada and Europe, performing at St Peter's Basilica in Italy, the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris and Carnegie Hall in NYC. |
